Cascale: Higg Responses

Cascale is the apparel, footwear, and textile industry’s leading alliance for sustainable production. Avery Dennison was one of the original Cascale board members and the first trim supplier to join Cascale. Cascale develops the Higg Index, a suite of tools that standardizes value chain sustainability measurement for industry participants. Avery Dennison annually completes the Higg Facility Environmental Module and the Higg Facility Social & Labor Module to assess environmental and social/labor practices at our owned manufacturing sites.

Higg FEM

The Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM) is a tool used to assess the environmental performance of manufacturing facilities in the apparel and footwear industry. Results from the FEM can help inform sites on how to make sustainability improvements.  The Higg FEM assesses Environmental Management Systems, Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Water Use, Wastewater, Emissions to Air (If Applicable), Waste Management, and Chemical Management. Higg FSLM

The Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (Higg FSLM) is a tool used to assess the social and labor conditions for value chain workers in the apparel and footwear industry. The FSLM assesses Recruitment and Hiring Working Hours, Wages and Benefits, Employee Treatment, Employee Involvement, Health and Safety, Termination, Management Systems, and Empowering People and Communities. With our global scale and industry-leadership position, additional to our in house production globally for our product lines, such as heat transfer labels and woven labels, we collectively partner with our suppliers through a global network to enrich the supply chain diversity and capability, who provide subcontracted processes for our products. We significantly stress production authorization towards our sourcing partners to assure of the transparency and traceability of our production. Outsourcing partners must be qualified through a valid social compliance assessment and committed to continuous improvement before production started.
